I have been incredibly fortunate, spending my career (so far!) in industrial and academic laboratories around the world. The electron shaped my early research adventures: from new hips to kitchen fridges, first dates to computer storage. However, the fascinating properties of the electron are matched by the beautiful physics within the collection of protons and neutrons bound at the centre. As an applied nuclear physicist, I am privileged to spend my time exploring the heart of the atom – the nucleus. My research group at the University of Surrey specialises in Radiation Detection in Complex Environments.
